Woman, 71, fighting for life after stabbing in Torquay

A WOMAN remains in a critical condition after she was stabbed in her Torquay home on Saturday night.

Police were called to a Barnstaple Street home just before 10pm where they found a 71-year-old woman with stab wounds to her face and neck.

A 20-year-old Urangan man who is not known to the woman was also found at the scene.

He has been charged with unlawful wounding, grievous bodily harm, burglary and breach of bail.

Police will allege the man broke into the woman's home through a window before stabbing, punching and kicking her.

He is scheduled to appear in the Hervey Bay magistrates Court on Monday.

The injured woman was flown to Brisbane for treatment, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
