Woman in attempted Subway stabbing to face court

Chris Ison

A MARYBOROUGH woman who allegedly tried to stab a Subway employee has been charged with attempted murder.

She will face Maryborough Magistrates Court on Monday.

The incident happened about 3.30pm on Friday at Maryborough's Subway store at Station Square.

Maryborough police Sergeant Bruce Hodgins said the 40-year-old woman allegedly walked behind the counter at the takeaway restaurant, grabbed a knife and attacked the worker.

"We have no idea why," he said.

Sgt Hodgins said the attack was stopped by other employees at the outlet, with staff members allegedly wrestling the woman to the ground.

The woman then allegedly drove away from the scene.

Sgt Hodgins said the woman was later located by police because her licence plate had been noted.

The employee was not physically injured in the alleged attack.

Sgt Hodgins said she was recovering from the incident.

"She's fine, just traumatised," he said.

A spokesman for Queensland Police Media said the two women were not known to each other.

The alleged attacker remains in police custody ahead of her court appearance.

In addition to the charge of attempted murder, the woman has also been charged with intent to commit an indictable offence.
