AWARD-winning journalist Toni McRae, has died aged 67.

Toni worked as an advisor for Member for Maryborough Anne Maddern.

On Thursday afternoon Ms Maddern released a brief statement about Toni's passing.

"She came into our office like a whirlwind, full of life, enthusiasm and wit and now she is gone leaving a dull and empty space  - we will miss her dreadfully," Ms Maddern wrote.

Toni died overnight on Wednesday.

She was an admired, award-winning journalist, breaking national and international stories.

But she lived her retirement on the Fraser Coast, at full steam.
