Readers leave messages for little boy in horror crash

THE SIX-YEAR-OLD boy seriously injured in the horrific crash on Pialba- Burrum Heads Rd is in a serious yet stable condition.

The young boy was airlifted by Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane after being stabilised at Hervey Bay Hospital.

He sustained head, chest, pelvis and leg injuries.

It took emergency services almost an hour to cut the boy from the passenger's seat after the crash at the Petersen Rd intersection about 4pm on Tuesday.

The Chronicle's readers left heartfelt messages to the young boy and his family on Facebook.

"Poor little darling... hope he comes through this ok," Christine Hogan wrote.

Sheree Robertson was sending prayers to the family.

"Hopeful (sic) he will fully recover," she wrote.

"Big thank you to all involved in saving this little man's life! Hope you all debrief with friends!"

Police said initial information suggested the crash occurred about 4pm when a sedan travelling west on Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd was turning right into Petersen Rd.

A bus crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle.

A 28-year-old woman, believed to be the boy's mother, was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital with minor injuries.

The 59-year-old bus driver and his only passenger, a 10-year-old boy, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The crash was less than a kilometre from the spot were Dundowran Beach man Raymond Burke died in a shocking crash in December last year.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
