THE Howard train station was closed off to the public by detectives after a 35-year-old woman was assaulted early Monday morning.
Plain clothes Senior Constable Nathan Garrett from the Maryborough Crime Investigation Branch told the Chronicle at 9am on Monday, police were contacted after blood was found on the platform.
Snr Con Garrett said the woman was from interstate.
A QAS spokesman said it appeared the woman continued her journey down from Howard to Gympie, where she was picked up by an ambulance and taken to Gympie Hospital about an hour before the blood was discovered at the train station.
A police media spokeswoman said the woman was in a stable condition.
"It's not yet known if the assault happened on the train or the station," the spokeswoman said.
Gympie CIB Chief Rob Lowry said they only had a peripheral involvement and it was being handled by Maryborough's CIB.
