WHO could have imagined the help and community spirit a group of classic car lovers could provide to the Fraser Coast?

There is a good chance the next Holden Kingswood or Falcon GTHO you see driving on our roads is part of the Wide Bay Rodders Car Club.

For six years the club, led by long-time president Des Batten, has helped a young girl walk, flown an injured tourist from Fraser Island and made a child's hospital stay more enjoyable.

Each year the club holds the May in the Wide Bay Show and Shine, the biggest classic car event on the Coast.

The softly-spoken president said the community donations are a result of a group of people and their love of great cars.

"We must have given away $25,000 I suppose, easily," he said.

"For the size of our club, there wouldn't be any clubs around like us that has helped out the community like we have."

Last year the 200-member group donated $7000 to help Sharkier 'Sharky' Lowrie find her feet and learn to walk.

The nine-year-old with cerebral palsy was the beneficiary of the 2015 Wide Bay Rodders' Show and Shine.

With the money donated she was able to travel to Brisbane and learn to walk using an elastic suit.

"The fellas pay to bring their own cars and all the money goes to he community," Mr Batten said.

This year's May in the Wide Bay will be held in Hervey Bay for the first time, at Pialba State School on May 1.
