THE people of Gympie sure know how to bring in the Christmas season.

Much trumpeting, colour and fanfare at the Centro Gympie 'Where's Santa?' Christmas Parade and Stage Show yesterday blew the whistle for the start of the festive season.

The vibrant parade of reindeer, elves and Cooloola Dance dancers bounced in Centro's doors at 5.30pm.

Led by excitable jazz marching band The Peppers Pep Band, the parade left toes tapping and children bopping as it passed the crowd to the main stage.

The Naughty Christmas Tree, back by popular demand after last year's parade, had children squealing with delight as it stood still, danced and dashed around.

Centro Gympie marketing manager Anthony Mallett was happy with how people received the show.

"I think everyone enjoyed it," he said.

"It was all about having fun and enjoying the start of Christmas. The kids seemed to have an absolute ball."

The stage show featured Mrs Claus, elves and a magic wizard who made Santa appear, with the help of children from the audience. Children lined up to visit Santa at his village and receive a goody bag.

Mr Mallett said he wanted to create lasting Christmas memories for children at Centro this year.

"That's why we're doing it. Our theme this year is Sprinkle Some Christmas Magic.

"The magic part is creating those memories that stay in your mind."

We want to bring that to our community. We want to keep people here.

"Having a good time is what Christmas is all about."
