Fire another blow to Craignish family after losing loved one

IN ANOTHER blow to a grieving Craignish family, the privately owned Fraser Lakes Golf Course clubhouse was gutted in a fire on Wednesday, less than a month after the family lost a loved one.

Kathy Cameron, widow to the late Lance Cameron, declined to talk to reporters on Wednesday.

A friend said she was shocked by the ordeal.

The clubhouse roof was held up by charred support beams that looked as if they could fold at any moment and bring the remains of the building to the ground.

Bevan Dingle, chairman of the combined maintenance committee which oversees the management of the greens on behalf of Fraser Lakes and the neighbouring Craignish Golf Club, said news of the blaze was a shock.

"They just rang me to let me know it had burnt to the ground," he said.

Police said the fire was not suspicious.

The Fraser Lakes Golf Course was flooded three times in the past three years and in February, Mrs Cameron said rain and winds off ex-tropical Cyclone Oswald had damaged the clubhouse.
