FRASER Coast councillor Robert Garland is the star of a YouTube video featuring his bird-calling ability and larger-than-life personality.

Made by Queensland filmmaker Tim Marshall, Birdman is a three-minute documentary about the councillor's hobby and has already clocked more than 1000 views on YouTube since last week.

Mr Marshall said the councillor wanted to be "the next Gangnam-style internet sensation".

The documentary sees Cr Garland telling stories about why he loves bird calling, including one occasion where he made a bird call in the presence of the Queen, along with up-close examples of all his favourite bird noises.

He's even teaching them to his son Daniel.

Mr Marshall, who also makes short films and music videos, said when he met the Hervey Bay local, he knew he had to make a film about him.

More of Mr Marshall's work can be viewed at asymmetryfilm.com.
