Council accused of not doing anything for M'boro

AT THE Q&A meeting, councillors Chris Loft and Phil Truscott were forced to get on the front foot against claims the Fraser Coast Regional Council wasn't doing anything for Maryborough.

Cr Loft cited a dinosaur exhibition in the Maryborough Town Hall as one of the projects the council had done to draw tourists to the region.

The debate on whether to build on the Old Maryborough Town Site was raised, with one speaker pleading to leave it alone.

The audience at Maryborough City Hall on Wednesday evening cheered but Cr Truscott rose to outline his case: "There's absolutely nothing there."

A petition to de-amalgamate the Fraser Coast Regional Council was again circulated in the audience.

Councillors Daniel Sanderson and James Hansen were also there, with the latter insisting he hadn't "sold out".

"I do think Hervey Bay is overrated," Cr Hansen said.

"I do think the council should get back to basics. Stop wasting money on pie-in-the sky projects."
