Dr Google can fuel unnecessary angst

OPINION: Google can be very, very dangerous.

If you're anything like me, no matter how sick you get you are reluctant to go to the doctor.

If I'm sick enough to stay home from work, I'll mostly moan about my illness to anyone who will listen, post cryptic Facebook status updates about how crook I feel and either stay in bed all day or mooch in front of the television for hours until I feel better.

The absolute worst thing you can do if you are sick, however, and something I have a weird obsession with doing, is Googling your symptoms to find out what dreadful disease you might have.

It's the perfect website to indulge your hypochondria.

Trust me, if you continue to do this by the end of the evening you will have convinced yourself that you have weird diseases from the past, like polio or small pox.

To those at home, feeling a bit off colour and about to reach for their smart phone and head to Google MD, I beseech you - don't do it.

Put your phone down and run away.

Maybe even do something crazy, like head to a real doctor.
