Dr Phil cops blame for road crime in Hervey Bay

A MOTHER-in-law's love of Dr Phil has cost her son-in-law $1750 in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court.

Shannon David Power pleaded guilty to being a repeat offender for disqualified driving.

The court heard Power was caught driving an unregistered vehicle on May 13 in Urangan, 21 months into a two-year licence disqualification handed down by the court in August, 2011.

Power apologised to the court, saying driving was a "bad and stupid decision".

He said he had to get to a job interview on the day in question, but his mother-in-law would not give him a lift because she was too busy watching Dr Phil on television.

In further salt into the wounds, Power was also unsuccessful in the job interview, the court heard.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell noted Power had almost served his previous licence disqualification when he was caught.

Power was disqualified from holding a licence for another two years and fined $1750.
