Driver falls asleep behind the wheel before crashing car

IT is believed a 26-year-old fell asleep behind the wheel before crashing a vehicle into a drain on the other side of the Bruce Highway on Monday night. 

Sergeant Bruce Hodgins from Maryborough Police Station said the driver was travelling to Gladstone when it's believed he fell asleep and crashed the car. 

An 18-year-old female passenger was taken to Maryborough Hospital with a suspected fractured ankle. 

The crash happened on the highway near Tiaro at 11.20pm.
