Father gets 10 years for sexual abuse of daughter

A FATHER who had an ongoing sexual relationship with his biological daughter for much of her young life, has been jailed for 10 years.

The 53-year-old, who can not be named, was charged after the daughter came forward to Hervey Bay detectives as an adult and made a formal complaint.

The victim was said to have been subjected to abuse, which began while the family was living in far north Queensland, from 2001 to 2009.

The man pleaded guilty to more than 40 charges including maintaining a sexual relationship with a child, rape, indecent treatment and incest.

Hervey Bay District Court Judge Leanne Clare sentenced the man to 10 years jail.

Under Queensland law, he will have to serve at least 80% in custody.
