Fraser Coast house prices among the lowest in the state

DESPITE being named one of the least affordable places to buy a home for residents, the Fraser Coast has some of the lowest house prices in Queensland.

With a median price of $285,000 in the year to September 2012, only Bundaberg was cheaper when the Fraser Coast was compared against 19 other major council areas by the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.

The regional centres of Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville City, Cairns and Gladstone all have median house prices ranging from $32,000 to $190,000 more expensive than the Fraser Coast.

Bundaberg has a median house price of $282,000, only $3000 less than the Fraser Coast average.

Maryborough was the Fraser Coast's cheapest suburb with an average price of $210,000 while Urraween was the most expensive at $329,900.

The December quarter median house prices will be released next month.
