HE WAS a just a nobody who became a household name in his home town 10 weeks ago as a reality star on Channel 7's Beauty and the Geek.

Gympie's Jason Newell made it all the way through to the medieval-themed final show this week.

The first challenge, a segway joust was a "dream come true" for Jason, who said he'd always wanted to be a knight.

"I do this for my beauty Kristy," he proclaimed.

"I have fought many dragons, I have fought giants, I have fought trolls. But you, Sir Dane are nothing to me. I will destroy you. Your heart will be on the ground dying. Do you understand?"

Dane said "let the jousting do the talking" and was victorious in battle.

Jason and Kristy were in last place after the jousting and the beauties had the challenge of wooing a warty frog with a kiss and a sonnet.

Kristy looked the frog in the eyes and professed her love before reluctantly giving it a "good old smooch" in Jason's words to score points and stay in with a chance to win.

Their last chance to score was in the third challenge, in which Jason had to climb a 10m rock wall, where Kristy was waiting.

Once at the top, the geeks had to give their beauties a tiara and give them a kiss - the "sloppy seconds of a frog" as Chard put it.

Jason wasn't looking forward to it at all.

The geeks were determined to get the points and Jason was willing to pull out all the stops in an effort to get further in the competition.

He made it up the rock wall in good time. He was nearly there and then the tiara fell.

He was given a second chance, but his arms and legs could not hold on.

Disappointed in himself, Jason was overcome with emotion for letting his team mate Kristy down.

"I've never done anything like that before and to get that far was such a great feeling. Maybe there's a chance for us in the end," he said.

When the scores were about to revealed, the couple was nervous.

The team with the lowest score was to leave the competition and the battle for third place and safety came down to Cody and Chontelle, and Jason and Kristy.

While Kristy scored three points for her frog poem, it was not enough to outdo the other couple and they were eliminated from the competition.

"It's been the greatest experience of my life... I've come out of my shell. Thanks to Kristy I am a completely different person now," Jason said.

"(It was) life-changing."
