Good news for boaties with Gatakers boat ramp to be dredged

GATAKERS boat ramp will be dredged by the in September to make it safe for boaties.

On Wednesday morning Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen announced work was expected to begin in September.

He said work to dredge the channel would begin about September 8.

To do any work in the marine park channel several government departments need to give it the tick.

"We've been dealing with around four departments - instead we should be dealing with one," Mr Sorensen said.

Last week the council worked to remove silt at the end of the ramp.

But Cr McDonald admitted that didn't work.

"The permits given didn't allow enough silt to be removed," he said.

"We were unable to deliver what the boating public wanted."
