Hunt still on for smaller crocodile in Mary River

WHILE the largest crocodile seen in the Mary River has been successfully captured, the hunt continues for the smaller reptile seen in the river in October.

A 2m crocodile was spotted north of the Mungar boat ramp on October 17 and a spokeswoman for the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection confirmed it was being targeted for relocation, but would not expand on any plans to catch it.

"Any crocodile south of the Boyne River, near Gladstone, is targeted for capture and removal," she said.

There had not been any sightings of the crocodile since that first sighting, the spokeswoman said, and there had been no recent reports of any other crocodiles in the Mary River.

A 3.8m crocodile was captured in the Mary River on November 12.

The crocodile was the second recent croc catch in the Mary, with a smaller one captured last November.
