TWO months ago, Graham Smyth was standing by the side of the road begging for a job - now he is saving money to build his dream house.

After looking for a job earnestly for a year, the 54 year old landed a stable job at the Beach House Hotel late July when the Chronicle highlighted his plight.

Starting out as the hotel's bottle shop attendant, Mr Smyth now works at the hotel's restaurant, the main bar and drives the courtesy bus whilst still tending to customers at the bottle shop.

"Life's good now," he said.

Mr Smyth, a permanent casual employee, is saving every cent earned towards building his own home.

"I'm getting close to my dream. I'm working almost everyday and the hours are slowly increasing," he said.

"Just months ago, I was spat at and called a loser but now I'm doing well."
