Koalas feature heavily at council meeting

TINANA'S koalas were a popular topic for discussion at the Fraser Coast Regional Council's meeting in Maryborough on Wednesday morning.

A petition from environmental crusader Emma Kate-Currie with 228 signatures called on the council to create a koala trust fund to exclusively protect the bears.

It was tabled by rural councillor James Hansen.

Within the hour, the councillors discussed the Koala Consultative Committee progress report.

Recommendations to come from the report include promotion of a koala count day, endorsement of a master plan for Pioneer Park in Tinana and better education.

The report was carried unanimously.

Koalas can also be tracked online at koalatracker.com.au.
