The legend of Mango

Fraser Coast Chronicle

AUTHORITIES have repeatedly been left grasping air as a lost dog, likened to Harry Houdini, makes a new home for itself at Gilston Road, Wondunna.

Fraser Coast Regional Council confirmed the crafty creature has, so far, evaded capture and appealed to its owner to come forward and claim his pet.

People living in the area have welcomed the red dog of Wondunna they nicknamed "Mango" by feeding him lavish meals, and letting their own pets loose to play with the pooch.

One of those, Anne Fehlhaber, said Mango was the resident celebrity, who forlornly and faithfully awaited the return of his master.

"He's a bit like the red dog from the film, as in, he will watch cars like he's waiting for his owner to return, and when he sees it's a different car he will lose interest and look away," Anne said.

"There's a couple of stories about how he came to be here, he is very timid around people and no-one can get close to him, but everyone feeds him and looks out for him."
