Man, 20, charged with arson after Scarness unit fire

UPDATE: Marcus James Allan has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate Stephen Guttridge in a Hervey Bay court.

Allan sat in the dock of the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with one count of arson after a unit fire in Scarness on Wednesday night.

No bail application was made and Allan will again appear on May 26.

EARLIER: Police have charged a 20-year-old man after an investigation into a unit fire at Scarness, on Wednesday night.

About 9.10pm, police were called to a unit well alight on East St.

Police said the fire was extinguished, but the unit had extensive damage.

No one was injured.

The 20-year-old local man was charged with one count of arson and will appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
