Bay man accused of raping 13-year-old step daughter

A HERVEY Bay man who allegedly raped his 13-year-old step-daughter in her own bedroom before violently threatening her, has faced court.

The 33-year-old man, who the Chronicle has not named in order to protect the teen, pleaded not guilty in Hervey Bay District Court to two counts of rape, a charge of attempted rape and indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place between March 2010 and December 2013.

Crown prosecutor Clare Hurley told the court that while living in Hervey Bay, the girl had her own room and one night her step-father had entered, woken her and shut the door.

She said the man allegedly covered her mouth before removing her pants and raping her.

"The defendant also indicated for her to be quiet," Ms Hurley said.

"He threatened her with violence if she told anyone."

Ms Hurley said on another occasion the man allegedly touched the girl's thighs while she slept on the floor.

She told the court the man had tried to pull the girl's pants down when she was home alone, and the girl allegedly freed herself before running outside to the garage.

The court heard the girl had told her mother and boyfriend of the alleged incidents.

The trial continues.
