Man found shirtless with bow and arrows fined $750

A MAN who was found shirtless on a Maryborough street holding a longbow with arrows has been fined $750 in Maryborough Magistrates Court.

Warren Joseph Williams, 50, pleaded guilty to public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kath Stagoll said two people who were in a vehicle looking at Christmas lights on December 24 were approached by Williams.

The couple saw Williams had a wooden longbow in his hand.

Police attended and told Williams to drop the longbow.

The police noticed Williams had something in his other hand and got out their firearms, but it turned out the item was a bottle of beer.

Defence lawyer Travis George said Williams had been threatened by a group of people he had previously associated with that night.

Mr George said his client had also been the victim of a home invasion last year.

"He accepts that what he did was very inappropriate."

Williams was allowed to keep the longbow.
