Man pleads guilty to driving truck into home

A MAN who allegedly drove a prime mover into an Oakhurst home before setting it on fire has pleaded guilty to a number of charges relating to the incident.

Denis Ian Harris, 54, appeared before Maryborough Supreme Court yesterday, where a jury was set to be empanelled to hear evidence in the case.

However Harris's guilty plea meant the case would proceed immediately to sentencing.

Harris pleaded guilty to the dangerous operation of a vehicle, malicious act with intent, two counts of arson, acts with intent to disable and unlawful stalking.

The court heard more time was needed to access a psychiatric report.

Sentencing was adjourned until Monday.

Harris was remanded in custody until then.

The incident left a 16-year-old girl with fourth degree burns to a third of her body. The mother of the girl suffered burns to her face, but her injuries were not considered serious.

At the time of the incident, a police spokesman said seven people were in the house when the fire started and all managed to escape before it was destroyed.

Harris also received treatment for burns after the incident.

He was treated first at Maryborough Hospital and then in hospital in Brisbane.
