Mix FM pays tribute to "Genuine family guy" Jon English

MIX FM on the Fraser Coast will be paying tribute to a superstar the breakfast announcer describes as a genuine family guy.

Mix FM breakfast announcer Scott Gilmour says he was lucky enough to interview and get to know Australian rock icon Jon English, who died at 66.

The legendary musician and tireless touring act is understood to have died after suffering complications from surgery.

During the last 30 years Scott has caught up with Jon English during his tours to the Fraser Coast and says it's a shock to find out we've lost another star.

"It was very sad to hear, he will be missed," Scott said.

"We'll be playing his music throughout the day to pay tribute and his legacy will live on at Mix FM," he said.

Scott said during every tour Jon English gigs packed out the Brolga Theatre.

A huge Jon English fan himself, Scott said he was a fascinating man to talk to.

"He had a collection of vintage comics with first edition Superman," Scott said.

"He was a genuine family man, his family came on tour with him."

"He was a nice bloke, really friendly."

Jon English was due to play at the Brolga Theatre this August.
