OPINION: It's nearly finals time on My Kitchen Rules.
It's around this time in the competition where mates are no longer mates and the reality of possibly winning $250,000 really sinks in.
It is a good feeling but also a really bad feeling - the good feeling is that you are very close but the bad feeling is that you could possibly go home any minute now. It's a one in five chance.
The top five in our series was Jake and Elle, Luke and Scott, Sam and Chris, and Mick and Matt who surprisingly returned after winning the "come back kitchen" challenge. Never saw that coming.
At this stage now we started to think about not only our strengths and weaknesses but the other team's strength and weaknesses.
We knew that Jake and Elle would always be there in the end as they worked just as hard as us behind the scenes but they also started to do a lot of molecular gastronomy (cooking with harmless chemicals to alter the structure of food itself ).
We always felt we would be paired off against Luke and Scott in the semi-final and pretty much thought "they will do their health food and we will do what we do and hopefully get the better of them," plus we knew Luke wasn't good under pressure.
Eventually we beat the Bondi boys in a close typical state vs state, mate vs mate final, grand final here we come.
We made it to the grand final and now it was time to analyse Jake and Elle, as we knew at the back of our minds that they would smash Mick and Matt in the other semi.
Jake and Elle started well, creating cold smoked king fish, they were off to a good start and we believe their dish was the best of the competition.
We watched how they worked together, took note of their strengths and weaknesses.
Once it was released that we were going up against Jake and Elle in the grand final we knew we had a battle on our hands as they cook amazing food.
Going into the grand final we said Jake and Elle will cook what they cook and we will cook what we cook - two completely different styles. It will come down to communication, team work and execution.
Both teams had 24 hours to submit their grand final menu to the food team and judges.
We had no time to practice any of the dishes, so we relied on our cooking ability, what we had learnt throughout the competition, communication and plan of attack.
You weren't allowed to take in any lists or recipes to kitchen HQ.
After each course both teams went back to a separate room, so that the judges and other teams could taste and critique the dishes.
We did three courses on the first day and two on the second day.
After each course over the two days we were extremely happy, we couldn't have done any better, we gave it everything we had.
It was time for announcement of who the champions of My Kitchen Rules for 2013 were.
We remember standing up there on the stage, 20 cameras looking at you at different angles, thinking it's all over, that's it, no more cooking in MKR.
They started to critique our dishes first.
We received all nines from all the judges, the only way we weren't going to win is if Jake and Elle get a 10.
Jake and Elle received two nines and two eights.
We celebrated, a confetti gun went off, confetti everywhere, everyone was crying, popping champagne - we are all celebrating. We just won.
We know exactly how these new teams are feeling in the lead up to the grand final being aired.
