WIDE Bay Motor Complex is another step closer to reality for project founder Ben Collingwood.
The group's president officially announced a three-year deal with the International Hot Rod Association, the world's second-largest drag racing sanctioning body, at a meeting on Wednesday night.
The IHRA's support, which Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders described as a game-changer, will ensure Maryborough becomes Queensland's next motorsport hub.
Fraser Coast mayor Chris Loft, who attended the meeting with Fraser Coast councillors Daniel Sanderson, Anne Maddern, Paul Truscott and Denis Chapman, said council would back the project 110%.
The project boasts support from local and state government, and Wide Bay MP Llew O'Brien said he would do whatever he could to offer support from a federal level.
Plans for the Wide Bay Motor Complex include a drag strip, off-road track and has the room to include motocross, speedway, and driver learning facilities.
Mr Collingwood signed a 30-year lease on the Boonooroo Plains site, next to the Maryborough Aeromodellers Club, just last month.
