Murder suspect to undergo mental health assessment

CHARGES against a man accused of murdering his wife at Pacific Haven last month, have been suspended pending the outcome of a mental health assessment.

Nathan Peter Norman Greenfield, 34, has been in custody since the body of his wife June Wallis was discovered at a home near Howard on March 22.

Police arrested the Burrum Heads baker in his car that same day after deploying stingers on the highway south of Gympie.

He was charged with murder, going armed to cause fear, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, possessing dangerous drugs, assault and obstruct police.

The charges were previously mentioned twice in court without Mr Greenfield making a personal appearance.

On Thursday, the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard Mr Greenfield was now subject to involuntary mental health orders and all charges had been suspended for a mandatory 60 days.

Mr Greenfield and Ms Wallis married in 2000 and had two children.

Both were well-known in their small community through the bakery business and her passion for horses.

Ms Wallis's family and friends have not been able to farewell her at a funeral due to ongoing investigations.

Mr Greenfield will return to court on June 4.
