POLICE have confirmed there will be no further physical search for a sailor who was reported missing after leaving Hervey Bay last month.

Eero Tiitinen has not been seen since he left Hervey Bay Marina on November 17.

His yacht was found by a French naval vessel in international waters last week.

The 8.2m yacht was found 328km off Coffs Harbour in New South Wales.

Mr Tiitinen has more than 20 years of experience on the water.

His yacht has been brought to Brisbane in the hope that it could yield some clues about his fate.

Search co-ordinator Senior Constable Martin Webb from Hervey Bay Water police said efforts would turn from a physical search to an investigation.

The matter has now been referred to the Queensland Coroner's Office.
