Our Say: Police not to blame for fate of Bali Nine

Our Say: THE Greens may have finally lost touch with reality.

Driving to work yesterday morning, I heard Greens leader Christine Milne on the radio, arguing that Prime Minister Tony Abbott should do everything he can to prevent the Bali 9 duo, Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, from being executed in Indonesia.

This I agree with.

Then she went on to say that Mr Abbott must do all he can because it was the Australian Federal Police who landed these men in the position they are in.

This I find laughable.

The only people who are responsible for the position these two men find themselves in are themselves.

They made a terrible decision to try to smuggle heroin and now they are paying the ultimate price.

Mr Abbott must fight for these men not because of any error on the part of the Australian police force, who, after all, were only trying to prevent dangerous drugs from coming into our country.

He must fight for them because it is his job to advocate for Australians in all corners of the globe and these men are Australian citizens.

It would be a terrible thing if he did not fight for their lives and I'm sure Mr Abbott and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop are doing all they can.

But in the end these men made their own choices and tragically, it is one they may soon pay for with their lives.
