WITH the lure of a sausage sizzle and the chance to get a photo on a police quad bike, a team of officers gathered at Bunnings to offer timely tips on staying safe and secure.

On Wednesday, police from the Hervey Bay Station and Maryborough Patrol Group Crime Prevention Team, met with members of the public throughout the morning to promote home and personal security throughout the warmer months and busy Christmas season.

Volunteers in Policing from both Maryborough and Hervey Bay helped feed hungry families at the stall which raised more than $280 for Police Legacy.

Senior Constable Melanie Ryan said the event, which was aimed at highlighting positive interactions between police and the community and reducing the rate of break and enters, was "a fabulous day all round" and hopefully the forerunner of many.
