A SOMBRE mood soaked the Toogoom dawn service during a rendition of Redgum's I Was Only 19.

More than 200 gathered in the crisp morning air at Toogoom to remember the sacrifices people have made serving their country.

From veterans to children, the service medals they bear shone in the morning light.
