Vital statistics

Who? The Block's Ben Toyne and Andy Sutherland.

Ages? 25.

Resume: Best mates from Geelong, Ben and Andy know they're in for a tough induction on The Block. Both are PE teachers and met while studying fitness together.

Their toughest challenge before starting the show was deciding who would be on the tools and who would be shopping and styling. A game of table tennis decided it.

See them: On Channel 9's The Block every Sunday at 7pm plus Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm.

You'll be seeing Geelong best mates Ben Toyne and Andy Sutherland learning on the job over the next few weeks, but we got them to down tools for a while to talk us through their lives with cars.

What was your first car?

Ben: It was a Ford Laser but I'm not sure of the exact model. I sold it for $1000.

Andy: A 2004 Peugeot 307. Not the most masculine car however it was an awesome little car to drive around and easy to park. It was black; I know nothing about the engine but it would respond when you put your foot down. I ended up crashing it so I was forced to part with my beloved Peugeot.

What are you driving now?

Ben: A 1996 Ford Falcon Futura which is 20,000 kilometres overdue for a service. I figure if it still moves there is nothing wrong with it. It runs on gas as well as petrol which is a bonus when I have no money. Although the gas sometimes conks out and I have no power when trying to accelerate.

Andy: A 2001 Ford Falcon with 200,000km on the clock...so I have downgraded from my first car! Francine the Falcon oozes character with her dints and scratches on the exterior plus a dodgy radio inside. However she gets me from A to B...just.

What cars did your family have while you were growing up?

Ben: It was something along the lines of a Holden Commodore. Can't remember a thing about it.

Andy: A Ford Fairlane, but I don't remember too much about it apart from cruising around the streets of Geelong in my booster seat. I'm sure some lucky person out there is the proud owner of it now.

What is your greatest frustration on the road?

Ben: When you give way to someone and they don't wave at you to say thank you. That's ridiculous.

Andy: Mine is similar. When you are on a narrow street and you pull over to give way to the oncoming car and they don't wave.

What's your favourite place in the world to drive?

Ben: Around home. I know exactly how fast I can drive around corners and all the shortcuts. It's almost like a home race track.

Andy: It would be Asia. I've bought a motorbike a couple of times in Vietnam and loved it. The lack of road rules mean you can get away with anything. It's heaps of fun!

Any preferred driving music?

Ben: Something really upbeat and loud. Sing-along music is always good.

Andy: It varies from some '80s and '90s to music from now. I don't mind singing along to some Jimmy Barnes, Eagles, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and Kanye West in the car. I will pretty much listen to anything.

If you were to pick anyone to go on a road trip with, who would it be?

Ben: I'd love to road trip with Steve Smith so I could chew his ear off about how I should be playing cricket for Australia. Delta Goodrem would be a close second, but not sure I could stand someone that is a better singer than me.

Andy: It would have to be Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. I reckon the bloke would be a legend and heaps of fun and wouldn't mind a practical joke or two.

What is your dream car - money no object at all?

Ben: A black Range Rover. Not sure why, I don't know a thing about cars but I reckon they look sick.

Andy: Yep, a Range Rover. I have always loved them and reckon they look sick too.
