OPINION: Aim to be ninety and still skydiving - like Betty

SOME people use age as an excuse to avoid things - "I'm too old for that", or "I'm only young, I have plenty of time later".

Neither statement can be relied upon as fact, and all too often those who think they are over the hill or have years left are simply not making the most of their existence.

Betty Boyce should be a role model for all of us.

"Real life" does not begin once you finish school, graduate university or get married, and nor does it stop when you retire or reach 60.

People often dismiss the Fraser Coast as a place for the "newlyweds and nearly deads", as a euphemism for "dull". But like those two earlier statements, nothing could be further from the truth.

There are plenty of energetic, vibrant people of all ages out there who work hard to make this a fun place to live.

Sports volunteers, charity event workers, and community helpers all go above and beyond to keep us entertained, and we live in one of the most naturally beautiful places in Australia.

We just have to follow Betty's lead, spot the opportunities and make the most of it.
