Teen charged with sexual assault against ambulance officer

A TEENAGER has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting an ambulance officer on the way to hospital after a car crash.

The young man appeared in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of serious assault - resisting or obstructing a police officer.

Defence lawyer Allan Mallard pleaded not guilty to both matters on behalf of his 18-year-old client.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kathryn Staggoll said the police were waiting on a brief of evidence.

Magistrate Graeme Tatnell asked the defence if the alleged sexual assault occurred on an ambulance officer.

Mr Mallard said the incident allegedly happened after the teenager was involved in a car crash and he was on his way to hospital.

Mr Mallard said his client was a passenger in a car that rolled several times.

He will appear again on August 21, when the case is expected to be handed up to the District Court.

The accused will remain on bail until his next appearance.
