Transgender teen on child exploitation charges

A TRANSGENDER teenager accused of filming a child in a sex act has been committed to the District Court.

Harley Leo Strachan, who identifies as a female named Heidi, fronted the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week charged with two counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count of making child exploitation material.

Police will allege Strachan had filmed and kept a computer-generated image of a 12-year-old boy masturbating.

The court heard Strachan, an 18-year-old who remains in a male prison awaiting the finalisation of unrelated alleged offences, was arrested during raids of his home, during which police allegedly discovered the material.

The charges were handed up without cross examination of the alleged victim or witnesses.

Asked if he wished to say anything before being committed, Strachan replied that he didn't.

Strachan was remanded in custody and will appear in the Hervey Bay District Court on a date to be set.

He is also charged with fare evasion.
