TWO people have been rescued by a watersports café owner on a jetski after they went in to the water to retrieve a dropped fishing rod.
The woman, who did not want to be named, told the Chronicle she and a teenager were fishing on the Urangan Pier when the teenage boy dropped his fishing rod in the water.
"He was just a bit panicked so I went in after him," she said.
The woman and teenager were caught by a rip and pulled out to sea.
But thanks to fast moving Aquavue Cafe owner Larry Burch they were soon rescued.
After receiving a call for help, Larry jumped on his jet ski and retrieved the pair from the water.
"We did what we had to do," he said.
Larry said due to the strong northerly wind, it was hard to see in the water.
The woman and the teenage boy were not hurt.
The teenager was seen by paramedics as a precaution.
