Two women attacked by dingoes on Fraser Island

TWO women jogging on the beach near Yidney Rocks on Fraser Island have been attacked by two dingoes about 6.45am on Sunday.

One woman received bites to both of her legs and was transferred to Hervey Bay Hospital for treatment.

The second woman received a bite to the calf which did not puncture the skin.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are investigating the incident and have increased patrols on Fraser Island to monitor dingo activity and provide information to visitors.

Camp zones between Poyungan Rocks and Eli Creek have been closed until further notice for public safety.

QPWS are advising people considering walking or jogging on the beaches, to exercise caution and stay in a group.

A QPWS representative said Fraser Island's dingoes were not domestic pets, they were wild animals and must always be treated as such.
