WATCH: Kangaroo drinks from bird bath in backyard

NAN Ott is no stranger to nature, but when she saw a kangaroo lapping water from a bird bath only a few metres away she felt fortunate.

Nan, who lives on 16 acres near Tinana, was having a cuppa with her sister-in-law at the time when they witnessed the close encounter.

"You could hear her lapping the water while the little Joey was eating greenery from the garden," Nan said.

Nan said while she knows kangaroos can do damage especially to graziers out west, she believes they're usually pretty pleasant.

"Nature is wonderful," she said.

"I felt very fortunate seeing this kangaroo so close."

Nan said her sister-in-law had told her about the kangaroos lounging around but this was the first time she had seen it for herself.

Nan, who has always been a big nature lover, has a goanna living in a hollow log that recently laid eggs at her property.

It is not rare for her to feed 40 to 50 birds at one time.

She also had a turtle wonder up to the driveway which she relocated.

Nan had the close encounter on Boxing Day.
