The 31st Annual Pier Festival at the Urangan Pier on Sunday September 25 once again brought to you by the Fraser Lions Club, kicks off with the fishing competition, organised by the Boat Club Fishing Club, commencing at 6am - with lots of prizes for those involved.

A merry-go-round and rides, food and craft stalls, a flea market, lucky spinning wheels, face painting and much more commences from 8am to 3pm. All proceeds will go to the Fraser Lions club of Hervey Bay and local charities.

Revellers can enter the Pier Festival Fishing Competition at the entrance to the pier from 6am and can also buy tickets in the huge multi-draw raffle with a fabulous 45 litre Fraser Island ice box from Bob`s Tyre Centres to win as well as a combo from Anglers Den and vouchers from The Boat Club.

Last year every child at the presentation went home with a prize so don't rush away after the weigh-in closes. Stay around and give the kids a chance to collect a prize. They do not have to catch a fish to win, as there are lots of random draws and hundreds of prizes to win.

The Fishermans Corner live weigh-in section will operate from 6.00am to 12.30pm. Eligible species include whiting, bream, flathead, pike and gar, with the dead weigh-in also operating from 6.00am to 12.30pm. Good prizes are up for grabs for the heaviest fish of each of the eligible species, which include nearly all species, except sharks, rays, toads and vermin.

For non fisherfolk, local businesses have been very supportive and donated a huge array of prizes and vouchers. There will be lots of random draws to give all entrants a chance to win.

So stay around for the presentations while enjoying the beautiful Pier Precinct, the Lions music and some great food and drinks. Absolutely anyone could win a really good prize, thanks to Fraser Coast Regional Council and all the event's great sponsors.

Prizes will be presented around 1.30pm.

Entry fee for the fishing comp is only $3 for seniors and $1 for juniors. For more information about the fishing competition, phone George Duck on 0407 663 578.

Come along to the Urangan Pier Festival Sunday September 25, from 6am and fish, fish, fish!
