Prestigious UN award for Chronicle series

25.10.08

A United Nations media peace award was won by the Fraser Coast Chronicle in Melbourne last night.

The Chronicle's landmark Let's Learn Butchulla series took out the coveted Newmont Asia Pacific Promotion of Aboriginal Reconciliation award in the face of fierce national competition.

Editor Nancy Bates accepted the award on stage with the host for the gala event, the ABC's 7.30 Report host, Kerry O'Brien, warmly congratulating her.

Let's Learn Butchulla: Hands in Time, Journeying Together won in the United Nations Association's 30th year of the media peace awards.

The judges showered praise on the series, an original idea by Ms Bates. Journalist Toni McRae, who put the series together, was also in Melbourne for the award.
