Gary Gilbert from the Carriers Arm celebrates Maryborough's success with Fraser Coast councillor Anne Nioa.
IT'S a good thing Anne Nioa wasn't hung over yesterday morning because by 6.30 she was on ABC radio basking in the glory of Maryborough's world record pub crawl.
The Fraser Coast councillor was in demand after Sunday's World's Greatest Pub Crawl attracted more than 10,000 people to the town - nearly half of those had their crawl cards stamped and entered into the official tally.
Maryborough's pub crawl was the talk of the country yesterday.
Ms Nioa's first call was from ABC Queensland, then ABC in Melbourne.
About 10am Western Australia wanted to get in on the gossip.
“I had about seven minutes on ABC radio in Western Australia, talking not only about the pub crawl but also about the Fraser Coast region and why it's such a great place to visit,” she said.
“It's been relentless this morning. This afternoon I wouldn't mind getting a bit of sleep.”
While the crawlers did get up to a bit of mischief later in the night, Ms Nioa said the event was relatively trouble-free.
“I've had a drive around town and there are a few bent signs - I even had a woman call and abuse me because her letterbox got broken,” she said.
“But in comparison, Melbourne had a rave party on the weekend and had about 56 arrests. I think Maryborough had very few arrests.
“It was just a really fun time.”
