Audrey Ward warms up for the lagerphone record attempt.
YOUNG and old bashed their lagerphones while doing the heel and toe at Brooweena at the weekend.
Bronco Jensen said it was a brilliant sight, with some lagerphone players dressed in period clothing to celebrate 150 years of Queensland.
A large crowd turned out to the Brooweena 150 years birthday bash on Saturday and 134 spectators took part in an attempt to have the most people playing the lagerphone at one time.
Unfortunately the Guinness Book of Records committee ruled the aim “too specific” to qualify for a record but Mr Jensen was still thrilled with the result.
“To come up with 134 players, we were just over the moon.”
Mr Jensen had hoped there would be 150 lagerphone players to represent Q150 but he was proud of everybody's efforts.
A lagerphone is an instrument where beer bottle tops have been nailed to an old broom stick or tree branch. It is played by shaking the stick while hitting it on the ground.
The day was a massive success, Mr Jensen said, with many dressing the part in long, lacy frocks and suits with vests and top hats.
“At the end of the day everybody came up and shook my hand and said what a brilliant day it was,” he said.
