A BONUS prize for the best pink costume has been awarded to the Pink Pirates after the results of the costume judging in the 2009 World's Greatest Pub Crawl put a tinge of pink on a few faces.

“The response to the pink theme for breast cancer was incredible,” said chairman Anne Nioa.

“We were overwhelmed at how many people wore pink and it certainly added to the exuberance of the day.

“Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of points allocated to the pink theme on the judge's scorecard, so some non-pink costumes overpowered the results in other areas.

“Because of the feedback, and because of the amazing success of this year's crawl, we have dipped a little deeper for the prize pool and allocated $500 for the best pink-themed costume. The judging panel was unanimous in giving that to the Pink Pirates.”

The Pink Pirates were Susan Jarius, Donna Sealey, Jodine Cochrane, Christine Prove and Kelly Hanley.

The main prize of $1000 for the best team went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Kaz Dingle's coffee sachet costume won the individual prize of $500.

Ms Nioa said costume judging had become more difficult each year as pub crawl numbers grew.

“We are already considering how to do it better next year because the last thing we want to do is discourage anyone from finding something colourful to wear that adds to the fun. The costumes create the festive air and make the pub crawl such a special event.”

The $500 lucky draw of completed pub crawl cards held on Sunday night was won by Leasha Kelly and the $750 bonus draw of a card with all 13 hotels completed was won by Derek Wright.
