Youth Care Hervey Bay has been up and running this week after closing its doors from a threatening swine flu outbreak.
Those living at the centre, including a youth who tested positive to the illness, stayed with friends and family while the centre was closed.
Co-ordinator Angelita Healy said that when the centre re-opened on Saturday, staff and residents were in good health.
“Young people came back and were all better and staff on shift were better,” she said. “We've had no issues since then.”
Another eight people in the Wide Bay Sunshine Coast health district had been confirmed yesterday with swine influenza, up 100 from the day before.
Ms Healy was surprised how quickly it spread.
“I think now from what we've been told from (Queensland) Health you only receive it once and once you've had it you don't get it again.”
Staff were not positive for swine flu but Ms Healy said they were quite ill last week.
There were now 771 cases in Queensland and more than 4500 in Australia.
A three-year-old boy in Victoria yesterday became the ninth person in Australia to die of swine flu, with six others also in Victoria, one in South Australia and one in Western Australia.
