A MUNDUBBERA man with a history of violent crimes has been refused bail in Maryborough Magistrates Court after allegedly setting his car alight.
Police allege Mark Kenneth Sinclair drove into a power pole on Olympia Street in Mundubbera on Thursday night.
He attended Mundubbera Hospital but was released and allegedly returned to the scene of the crash to set the car on fire about 2.30am yesterday.
Sinclair, 39, appeared in custody in Maryborough Magistrates Court charged with arson, endangering property or life and being a public nuisance.
The court heard Sinclair's criminal history included charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful wounding and attempted murder.
“It was a long time ago. Things have changed a lot since then,” Sinclair told the court.
Sinclair, representing himself, said he had been suffering depression and felt he needed help.
He told the magistrate he wanted to plead guilty to all three charges and applied for bail.
Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Quirk opposed bail because of Sinclair's history, prior breaches of bail and the risk of him re-offending.
Mr Smith refused bail and adjourned Sinclair's case for committal mention on August 17.
“You've got a propensity towards acts of violence,” Mr Smith said. “There's a grave risk of you causing danger to members of the public and committing further offences.”
