A POINT Vernon man who ended up in intensive care after crashing his motorbike while not wearing a helmet has been told by a magistrate to take a walk.
Aaron James See lost control of his bike on Spinnaker Drive in Point Vernon about 6pm on May 9.
The 21-year-old electrician and his motorbike were thrown 5m into the air.
The motorbike landed on a nearby parked car and See landed on the road and was knocked unconscious.
He was taken by ambulance to Hervey Bay Hospital with three fractured bones in his skull, internal bleeding, a fractured ear bone and bleeding in his eardrum.
See pleaded guilty in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, failing to wear a helmet and failing to control his vehicle.
Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Quirk said See had several similar offences in his history - the most recent conviction was just two months before he crashed.
Magistrate Graham Hillan told See the courts took a dim view of his conduct.
“You were on the road. You were unregistered. You almost killed yourself,” Mr Hillan said.
“You're not a very good advertisement for riding a motorcycle.
“I think you should thank your lucky stars that you're here today.”
Mr Hillan said it was clear See hadn't learnt his lesson and this time he would lose his licence.
“Perhaps this will hit home to you the seriousness of these offences,” he said.
Mr Hillan fined See $1500 and banned his licence for a month.
