THE Past Grammars juggernaut is showing no signs of slowing down on the road to winning the Fraser Coast Cricket A grade premiership.
The unbeaten competition leaders crushed Australs by eight wickets in the round 16 all-Maryborough showdown at Newtown Oval on Saturday.
Australs batted first were all-out for 113 in the 39th of their allotted 40 overs.
Just three batsmen, Matthew Rook (11), Matt Muller (31) and veteran all-rounder Tony Cordie (39 not out) reached double figures.
Medium pacer Russell Hotchin, four for 25, figures which included a hat-trick, did the damage with the ball.
In reply, Past Grammars lost an early wicket after last week’s century maker Sam Chew was dismissed for one before captain Paul Sanders (45), Brad Wex (25 not out) and Marty Burrows (36 not out) combined to guide their team to victory in the 21st over.
In the other game of the round, defending premiers, Bushrangers, beat another Hervey Bay team, the Mariners, by five wickets in a low-scoring affair at Urangan’s Keith Dunne Oval.
The Mariners were dismissed for only 89 with Scott Maloney (32), Brad Vincent (24) and Clinton McIvor (13) the only batsmen to offer any resistance as Jeremy Pasin took three for 30.
All-rounder Shane Muller, who also took two wickets, led the successful run-chase with 40 as his team scored five for 91.
Cavaliers won the other scheduled game of the round on a forfeit from the Coastal Cougars because of a lack of players.
