CAN anybody explain the mysterious lights and clouds that were seen over the Fraser Coast in the past few days?

Fraser Coast Chronicle photographer Nat Bromhead captured images of the spellbinding spiral light seen on Saturday by early risers throughout Queensland and other eastern states.

Nat was driving from Maroochydore to Maryborough about 6am when he saw the bright light surrounded by a spiral haze which appeared at times to drift across the sky.

Speculation about what the light could have been has ranged from aliens and space junk to a spent rocket that was launched earlier at Cape Canaveral in the United States.

Yesterday, Chronicle senior reporter Toni McRae saw strange cloud formations which started about 9.45am with a long thin white trail across the sky.

She said locals were gazing upwards in wonder as suddenly a tall towering, fluffy funnel reached upwards like a twister and the moon moved across the funnel about 9.55am.

“Next came the ghostly trio – the long thin line at the bottom of the stack, the funnel and another trail across the top,” she said.

“And finally at 10.25am the three tiers melded into one puffy long cloud line with no obvious end in sight.

“I’ve never seen anything like it.”
